The structure, which forms the entrance to the Town Hall, was designed by Mr. Varney Parkes, and built by Mr. Worral, of Waverley. There are 361 names on it of soldiers who enlisted from Wollongong; of these, 74 are in the supreme sacrifice list. The unveiling was by his Excellency the Governor-General, Lord Forster, on Sunday, June 3rd.
