There was a touch of romance about the Australian bowls four-handed semi-final at City green today, B. Gordon, a member of the Woonona rink, leaving immediately after the game to be married. Woonona was beaten by South Africa by a narrow margin, but Gordon was still smiling when the game was over.
“It certainly would have been a big day for me to have reached the final of the Australian championship,” he said afterwards.
Gordon was the recipient of many goodwill handshakes when he was leaving the green, but soon afterwards entered the car which had been waiting for him all the morning to take him to the Woonona Presbyterian Church, where he was married to Miss Mary McKinnon at 2.39 p.m.
The McKinnons and Gordons are well-known families in Woonona, where both Gordon and his bride have lived all their lives.
Gordon is a master painter. The best man at the wedding will be R. Waugh, who skippered the Woonona rink in the championships.
