MAN SHOT ON THIRROUL BEACH

Andrew Hyslop, of Lachlan street, Thirroul, is in Bulli Hospital, suffering from gunshot wounds to left leg. It is stated that last night, while he was sitting on Thirroul beach with a female friend, a man who is alleged to have been after rabbits mistook the couple’s movements for a rabbit and fired a shot, which took effect. The female received only a few pellets and was taken home. Illawarra Ambulance made the trip from Wollongong to the scene in 12 minutes.

DUNNY CANS STOLEN

Wollongong and Port Kembla police are puzzled over what they consider is the strangest stealing case on the South Coast for years – the theft of 700 sanitary pans, valued at £175. The pans are metal containers used in non-sewerage districts, and they disappeared from a depot in the scrub when it was unattended.

SHARK STUCK IN PIPE

A message from Wollongong says the water supply for the smelting works having stopped investigation was made, which revealed the fact that a shark, 4 feet 9 inches long, was stuck in a pipe. Despite his imprisonment the shark was very much alive when dragged out, but was then killed.
